The Horton Hedgerow
While I may treat myself to the odd one or two at a nice bar occasionally, cocktails are firmly within the purview of Christmas in my eyes. In the run up to Christmas, my family and I always try our hands at concocting a couple of cocktails, and this is the result of such experimentation. The centrepiece of this drink, the apple and blackberry gin, was created from our very own apples and blackberries picked from the garden and is honestly tasty enough to drink by itself (recipe coming soon). Combining it with the Cointreau however, gives it an even fruitier taste while holding back on the alcoholic punch. In this instance, it is mixed with lemonade but whatever your preferred mixer will do. Let's raise our glasses to a scrumptious Christmas!
50ml fruit gin, preferably berries and apple
25ml Cointreau
Lemonade
Ice
Citrus peel
1) Take a chilled glass, and fill with ice. Add the gin and cointreau, then mix. Top up with your preferred mixer, lemonade in this case, and mix again. Garnish with a good length of citrus peel, preferably clementine or lemon.
